Thursday
After breakfast in Sierpe we’ll travel downriver by motor launch with kayaks to the mangroves. We do a morning paddle in the mangroves with a guide. There is much to observe in this unique ecosystem. Paddle back to Sierpe or be picked up depending on the tidal current. After lunch in Sierpe, travel by van to the Valley of the Diquis to examine the mysterious stone spheres found in the area.

Friday
After breakfast, we will travel to two waterfalls, meet the indigenous people (Boruca) and have lunch with a Boruca family. In the afternoon we’ll watch the Boruca carve their famous devil masks and view a variety of masks danced at the Danse Diablo Festivals. We’ll do a late afternoon paddle near the boca of the Terraba, where it enters the Pacific ocean and have dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Saturday
After breakfast, we’ll paddle in the Upper Sierpe. We will paddle the main river as well as more jungle intense side streams. This is perhaps our most wildlife intense paddles with caimans, macaws, snakes, iguanas and lizards as well as three species of monkeys. You’ll want a camera for this one. In the afternoon we will return to Sierpe for lunch and to pack our bags for the trip back to San Jose. We will fly back to the San Jose area from Palmar South airport in the later afternoon and check into our hotel. Saturday evening we will have a goodbye dinner and trip evaluation.

Sunday
Hotel will provide shuttles to the airport for those flying home. Hotel can arrange tours for those wishing to extend their stay or to help you rent a car for a self guided tour of the Central Valley and beyond.

Although we do our best to adhere to the schedule listed, the itinera ry is subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control. If river conditions make safe passage questionable, we reserve the right to substitute other paddling areas or to make changes in the plan where we deem necessary for the well being and comfort of our paddlers.

Because airlines can experience delays that cause conflicts with our van departure, we recommend arriving into the San Jose area one day early, Saturday instead of Sunday. We can recommend a few nice moderately priced hotels. From your hotel, please call our Costa Rica number 506-305-8788 to arrange to connect with our van. You can reach us at this number anytime during your stay in Costa Rica.
